In realtá usarlo per catalogare lo spam é *una* delle forme
di utilizzo, che puó essere piú generico.

estraggo dal manuale:

"To set up your buckets, let's assume that you want three buckets: work,
personal and spam. A little way down the 'buckets' page, there's a
'Maintenance' tab, with a box labelled 'Create bucket with name:'. Create
each bucket in turn - remember, tailor them to whatever you want - 'spam'
and 'real', or 'work', 'home' and 'spam' - or one for each of your projects"

e dalle FAQ:

[Q] How many buckets should I have for POPFile to be effective?

[A] POPFile requires at least 2 buckets for any classification as it needs
something to compare against. The number of recommended buckets depends on
what you are using POPFile for.  As a spam filter, it is best to have 2
buckets or more (to differentiate "spam" from "non-spam").  If you wish to
not have POPFile's classification headers in your "non-spam" mail, you can
set up your email program to just look for the "spam" tags and place those
messages in a spam folder. This way you don't even need to have POPFile add
tags to your "non-spam" mail. As you are setting up your buckets, make sure
to read the statistics section of this FAQ for tips on good bucket design.

Anche a mio avviso le soluzioni lato server sono migliori, il problema
é che in molti casi (me voilà!), l'utente non gestisce 
il sendmail o equivalente, quindi ponendosi il problema il campo d'azione,
filtro bayesiano o no, é limitato attorno al MUA.
