From: icatlist@xxxxxxxx (On Behalf Of Peter Mell) Sent: Wednesday, 27 July, 2005 23:37 To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Update to ICAT Vulnerability Index ICAT users, The ICAT vulnerability index has been completely rewritten and upgraded. It is now called the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) and is available at http://nvd.nist.gov. It provides the same Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) vulnerability indexing service as ICAT but contains major enhancements: 1. NVD is updated hourly with new CVE candidates 2. NVD integrates all publicly available United States government vulnerability resources 3. NVD will soon contain a statistics generation engine that allows users to graph vulnerability statistics and trends 4. NVD will soon contain an XML feed that has no licensing restrictions on its use 5. NVD publishes an RSS 1.0 feed NVD currently contains 11,820 NVD vulnerability summaries, 482 US-CERT cyber security alerts, 1085 US-CERT vulnerability notes, 776 OVAL queries, and almost 50,000 industry vulnerability references (visit NVD to learn more about any of these products). This mailing list (icatlist@xxxxxxxx) will be renamed nvdupdate@xxxxxxxx to reflect product changes. It will continue to be an extremely low volume list that will be used to announce changes to NVD. Please let me know what you think of the new product. We are very much open to suggestions for improvement. Also, please let others know about this free service. Peter Mell NIST, Computer Security Division National Vulnerability Database nvd@xxxxxxxx
